DRC hosts Macmillan Coffee Morning

Meet Kelly. Kelly has been coming to the DRC for 4 years now and she’s a regular face at our Wednesday coffee mornings. Kelly had the brilliant idea of combining the DRC coffee morning with the Macmillan coffee morning and raising money for the charity. Here she tells us about what inspired her to take part...

"I decided to host the coffee morning in memory of my father and uncles who lost their lives to cancer. My dad passed away in 2015 and ever since I’ve been looking for an opportunity to have an event in his memory. My father was a huge part of my life, we use to call him the wise old owl, and his attitude to life was truly wonderful. I have a tattoo of an owl on my arm to remember him by, it says “never lose hope”. The message is important to me because I very nearly did lose hope when he passed away, but with the support of counselling I worked through it, now I remember the message daily. The work Macmillan do is invaluable, and the DRC coffee morning was the perfect place to host the event because of the sense of community between all of us here. We've raised a lot of money and I feel so proud!"

Kelly's coffee morning has raised over £46.00, thank you to all those who took part!
