Health and meditation events at Birmingham Buddhist Centre
More Early Morning Meditations!
For the early birds, we are continuing with the 7am slot in 2010 on a daily basis including weekends. Doors open 6.45am, meditation begins 7am prompt.
7am meditaion will also continue every day, 7 days a week, throughout the festive period.
For those who start their day slightly later, there will be a second slot at 8am during the week (not on weekends) from 4th January.
This means there will be the option of doing a single meditation at 7am, or a single meditation at 8am, or a double-meditation from 7am to 9am.
The 8am meditation slot will be happening Monday to Friday throughout January starting on Monday 4th January. If successful, it will carry on into February and beyond.
If you are coming for the 8am meditation, please arrive from 7.45am, to start at 8am prompt.
Breathworks Courses
Mindfulness-based Courses for Living Well with Chronic Pain & Illness
The Breathworks Living Well with Pain and Illness course explores a multi-facetted approach to managing pain and illness along with the stress that often arises as a consequence of these difficult circumstances. The courses, which are entirely secular, provide a tool kit of resources that we can apply in our lives. The programme as a whole is based on the practice of Mindfulness - moment by moment non-judgemental awareness - which we explore progressively over the course. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet others living with similar experiences of pain and ill health. This has often proved to be both important and beneficial.
The programme is open to all on a self-referral basis. So far this has included people with conditions such as: chronic back pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, post-operative pain, cancer, nervous disorders, MS, Parkinson's disease, and other non-specific pain. This list is not exhaustive and we welcome enquiries whatever your condition.
The only pre-requisite for joining the course is willingness and commitment to engage fully with the programme, which will involve practice at home between sessions (30 - 45 minutes daily).
Two Key principles underlie all aspects of mindfulness and run through the whole course:
LEARNING TO LIVE IN THE PRESENT MOMENT AND BREATHE INTO OUR EXPERIENCE.
LEARNING TO 'RESPOND' RATHER THAN 'REACT' TO OUR LIFE'S CIRCUMSTANCES.
