Workplace training

We are able to provide Disability Equality Training in our conference suites or at your offices. The training aims to help you towards compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act and use good practice to allow equal integration.

Public transport driver training

Birmingham Disability Resource Centre, provides Disability Equality Training based on the Social Model of Disability and includes important information around the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
We currently have a two year contract with Birmingham City Council’s Licensing Department, to provide Disability Equality Training to all new taxi drivers, Hackney Carriage & Private Hire drivers applying for their first licence.
We train 20 drivers each week, covering subjects such as:

  • Disability Issues
  • The difference between the Medical and Social Models of Disability
  • Barriers faced by disabled people in today’s society
  • Language Guidelines
  • Their specific duties under sections 36 & 37 of Part V - Public Transport, of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995
  • Practical demonstrations on how to assist disabled people in and out of Hackney Carriages & Private Hire cars
  • Practical tips on folding wheelchairs

The feedback we have had from both drivers who have attended the course, and members of staff from the Enforcement Section of the Licensing Department, (who have also attended the course), have been very positive.
For more information on the above, please contact:

The Centre is a fully accessible building with excellent facilities and ample free parking. The Conference Room and the Meeting Room both have fitted induction loop systems.
