Why DRC's 25th Birthday is important to me...

Hi I’m Linda (although most here know me as the gaffer!) and I currently volunteer for the Disability Resource Centre. I’ve been involved with the organisation for 5 years. When the centre in Kitts Green opened I was asked if I’d like to come down and get involved and I’ve been here ever since. I initially attended the coffee morning, and then I became a mentor for the DRC, now I look after the reception on a Tuesday and run the coffee morning on a Wednesday.

The DRC’s 25th birthday is important because so many people would be lost without the services we provide. I know for a fact I’d be very bored if I wasn’t able to volunteer here! And I’ve learnt so much by attending the courses ran here over the years. It will be great to celebrate all that the DRC has achieved.  The staff and volunteers are friendly and hardworking and always do their best for everyone.

DRC's 25th Birthday Celebration Event

2017 marks the Disability Resource Centre’s (DRC) 25th birthday. To celebrate this important milestone and to raise awareness of our valuable work, we are organising a Celebration event on Wednesday 13th September 2017, 10am-2pm at our Information, Health and Wellbeing Centre in Kitts Green, Birmingham.

The event will include: taster sessions (Arts and Crafts, IT sessions and Indian Head Massage), info about the DRC and its services, and a buffet and refreshments. There will also be a formal presentation and ceremonial cake cutting at 12pm by our Chairperson Tim Phillips, CEO Louise Mckiernan, and special guest Mark Fosbrook, Wheelchair Basketball Athlete.

We’d love to have you come and celebrate with us! Although it is not essential to RSVP, please email sbarberjones@disability.co.uk or phone 07717 843 491 to confirm if you are planning to attend, so we can ensure we have enough food and refreshments for everyone!

We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Please also note that parking will be limited on the day, so if you are able to make alternative transport arrangements, it will be much appreicated; however if you do need to drive, there wil be DRC representatives on hand to direct you to parking spaces when you arrive.
